Assessing and Improving Student Achievement with Technology

As I reflect back on my most recent course, EEND679 Assessing and Improving Student Achievement with Technology, the first thing that comes to mind is feedback. We had some wonderful discussions in class regarding the importance of providing student feedback in the classroom. To me, assessment is only as good as what you use it for, to evaluate, analyze and circle back to the student to discuss and build upon. There were also some fantastic tech tools like Classcraft, Seesaw, ClassDojo to name a few. We also shared some good tips for discussing managing technology in the classroom.

Quite frankly, I was all over the board with it until I finally realized I was making it more difficult than it really was. After all, if I could not decide on a subject, how could I champion Genius Hour in my classroom if I was struggling? So, I decided to make a Spanish dish my mom has made for years. I discuss that further in a blog post.

I think it would be great to perhaps visit other districts or schools where they are effectively using assessment at the elementary level. I definitely see the benefits in some of the topics we covered, especially personalized learning with badging, game based learning, and self-evaluation. I believe they will enhance student learning, be engaging for students, as well as allow students to critically think about their learning.

I look forward to continuing the journey towards my Tech Specialist Endorsement. The face-to-face meetings in class with my colleagues and professor have proved invaluable for my technology integration into lessons and curriculum. I have also decided to take the additional classes to complete the masters degree in technology.

  1. Genius Hour can be overwhelming. The possibilities are endless and it is hard to pick. Kids will struggle with this too. Using the forms we used in class may help!
