Computer Corner Newsletter
As a computer teacher seeing a little over 500 kids, it is a bit difficult to reach out to all parents individually. Since my units are basically quarterly, I have decided to create a quarterly newsletter to coincide with the information the students are learning. Unfortunately, since many of of the parents do not have email, I am unable to use my preferred method of emailing it out. As a result, it will have to be printed. Here is my newsletter for reference to get an idea of what it will look like.
There are some challenges in creating a newsletter. First of all, there is the proverbial time factor...something many teachers struggle with. Where do I find the time to create a newsletter? Perhaps sending them out quarterly will help with this. Another challenge is content. There are various elements involved with this. Some of them include where to find the information to fill the newsletters' pages and how much. Finally, another thing to consider is if the newsletter needs to be translated. This is important in schools that have a high population of ESL students.
I believe newsletters are a great, professional looking way to share your classroom story and to disseminate information to parents. Newsletters can be used for various reasons in the classrooms. They can be created and sent out by the teacher to highlight curriculum and/or notify parents of upcoming events. Students can also create them to showcase some of the work they have completed. The beauty of newsletters is that they can be sent out electronically, posted on a website or blog, or printed the old fashioned way.
