It’s Showtime

Well, this is it! As the notes say, it is "time to show how far you have come over the past few weeks. Did you reach your end product? How close did you come? Where will you go from here?" So, to answer these question, I would start with I feel I have come a long way in my French braiding quest. I have gone from not knowing how to French braid to understanding the concept and 'loosely' being able to do it. Mind you, it is not so pretty, but it's getting there.

My end goal still needs to be reached because I am neither confident nor comfortable French braiding. Also, I do not think my French braids look too good. As mentioned before, I understand the concept, but need to keep practicing to get better. As to where I will go from here, I will enlist the help of my daughter's friend to give me a hands-on lesson. I think I will do much better with someone showing me in person how to do it so I can watch and she can help me along the way.

My daughter, being the tween she is, got easily bored with me using her as practice model, so that did not last long. Luckily I had other clients who lined up who were more than happy to assist. Here are some pics of my clients, who did not say a word to me in all my attempts. The girl shown with the stripe shirt has rather thick hair and not as long as I would have liked to practice on, but it she helped me nonetheless.

  1. I love your new clients! ;) I think it is so great that not only did you stop when your daughter got bored with you using her as a model, but also that even though you are not completely comfortable and confident in your finished product, you are still not giving up! Practice definitely makes perfect. I taught myself how to french braid, and trust me, it was not an over night process.

  2. Teresa!
I love that you attempted to french braid! My mom owns a beauty salon, and ironically, at 68 still does not do french braids very well. My older sister on the other hand, taught herself, and if you ever get a french braid from her....get ready for a face lift! She'd make the braid so incredibly tight!

I think your braids look great! I only tried ONE time in my life to french braid. I used a Youtube tutorial, and practiced on my guy friend. Needless to say, it was HORRIBLE. I feel your pain, but I promise your end result is far more beautiful than mine. Good job :-)

  3. Teresa,
This is what all mothers do with their children. I too like you clients. The last braid you did show did not look bad. In my family, we usually let the girl's hair grow and not really braid it. I applaud you for trying to pick up a skill not easily mastered. Stick with it as you are probably closer to the perfect braid than you think.
